EWBC Joins Forces with Chesapeake MSBL to Battle Cancer
The Chesapeake Men's Senior Baseball League (Chesapeake MSBL) and the Eastern Women's Baseball Conference (EWBC) are partnering to raise funds for the fight against breast and prostate cancers. Players from the two leagues will play a coed baseball game at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 28, at Joe Cannon Stadium, 7551 Teague Road, Hanover, MD 21076. All proceeds from the game and associated events will be donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Aside from skin cancer, breast and prostate cancers are the most common forms of cancer. Over 200,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2010, and over 200,000 women with breast cancer. The “Coed Baseball Battles Cancer” game is a unique event organized to raise funds to fight these diseases and to help the men and women who battle them. While coed softball fundraisers are fairly common, this is the first time that coed baseball teams will take the field in a charity game. Following the game, family, friends and fans are invited to join the players at the nearby Greene Turtle Sports Bar where a $10 donation will provide food and drink at happy hour prices. The Chesapeake MSBL is based in the Baltimore-Annapolis, Maryland area and participates in the Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks Adult Baseball Programs. The EWBC, with teams based in counties surrounding Baltimore and Washington, DC, has been providing opportunities for girls and women to play organized baseball since 1990. Chesapeake MSBL and EWBC players are men and women from all walks of life, from former pro baseball players to lawyers, doctors, moms, dads, and students. Both leagues are 501c3 non-profit organizations.
